my next craze...pom-pom

how would you like those pom-pom to be one of your decoration at your children's party? Isn't awesome? Children surely loving it. I love it. :)
I used light purple crepe paper and a scissor to cut the edges into wavvy style. And here is my first pom-pom.

venus

the long awaited photo, venus, as i promised months back. Venus - kusudama ball origami. It is a paper ball, made out of multiple identical origami shape and sew it together to form a ball just like in the photo. You can mix it with 2 colors or more. You can see them as a decoration or as a gift. I gave away 2 venus to a friend in labuan. She loves it so much!

The Benefits of Craft Classes for Children

Resource from Early Childhood Education (UK)

These days you’ll find a range of craft classes available for children of all ages. But what benefits can be gained from attending such classes?
Many children enjoy having a go at arts and crafts activities, such as making collages, painting, drawing, making models or sticking and gluing things. If your child is showing an interest in crafts, or you think they could do well at creative pursuits, then attending an organised craft class might be the ideal solution.
Craft classes are available for children of all ages, but usually start from the pre-school age, of three to five years old. They can be one of the classes, where children take part in certain activities and crafting, or classes that can be run on a regular basis, such as a once a week for a term. They offer a great way of trying out a variety of crafting methods in a fun and stimulating environment. It might be crafts that your child has never come into contact with before, or it may be things in which they can improve and develop craft skills they’ve already learnt.

An Array Of Benefits

The classes are a good way for children to interact and socialise with their peers, through fun activities. Some craft activities are likely to be designed so that children can have a go, on an individual basis, at things themselves. But there are also likely to be group craft experiences too, where everyone contributes to a project.
The latter approach is great for building up social interaction with children and for them to learn about team work, sharing and cooperation. It’s also a wonderful achievement for them to be involved in a group project and they’re likely to feel very pleased with their contribution, however small or large.
With pre-schoolers in particular, taking part in art and craft activities can have significant benefits. For example, holding a pencil, crayon or paintbrush in their hands can help with fine-tuning motor skills. It improves their coordination and strength and will have long-lasting benefits, such as helping their ability to write and use a pen as they get older.
Taking part in craft classes is likely to be enjoyable for children and could help boost their confidence in their own abilities. Of course, crafting isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and if your child doesn’t seem to enjoy attending, then there’s no point in pushing them into going. It may be that they’re just not into crafting, or perhaps that the classes aren’t quite the right format for them or aimed at their age group.
As children get older, there are still many benefits to be gained from craft classes. It’s a nice hobby to have, offering the chance to unwind and take the mind off other things and could be a way for older children to relieve stress.
As children become more experienced at crafting, they may find areas that they find particularly enjoyable or want to explore more. Many classes offer the opportunity to do this – unlike some school-based art classes, where you have to do what everyone else is doing – so this can help broaden their educational experience.

Overview of Art & Craft Education

What is art?
Part of everyday life
As a trim, seen as nonessential or elitist
Valuable commodity
Visual communication through elements of color, line, shapre, and texture instead of words

Why is art important for young children?
A child’s art belongs to the child
No adult interpretation or descriptions can, or should, describe what a child has created
Part of child’s own process of communication and creativity
The first mark made with a crayon, dips a brush into paint or glued coloured circles onto the paper is the birth of a creative process
Child freely experience the sheer pleasure of getting to know himself in a new way, self-expression
Fundamental growth of a child
Integration of many skills and basic experiences

Have you seen this tape before?

What is masking tape?

Masking tape is originally used in construction sites and vehicle paint shops for curing and to avoid articles from being painted. Recently a new way of using the mt tapes was invented by mt fans and now the use varies from wrapping, interior and to collage as "mt does not leave stain after peeling off", "variety of cute colors", "just the right degree of transparency of rice paper" and "loveliness of materials".

why crafts are important for children

Healthy foods. Sleep routines. Potty training. Reading. Crafts. These are all important parts of your child's development.

Crafts help to foster creativity and imagination. They give children a sense of accomplishment. They can lead to lifelong hobbies. They can even provide the parents with a few minutes of peace and quiet.

Many parents fear that their own lack of creativity will inhibit them from producing quality craft projects for their children. This is simply not the case. First, children can make craft projects out of almost any material. Craft projects can be as simple as setting out old magazines and newspapers and letting children cut out pictures and words to glue on brightly colored construction paper. You do not need to have a lot of supplies or knowledge in order to create crafts with your children that they will really enjoy.

Of course, older children might benefit from a well-stocked supply cabinet. There are many online and retail locations which carry craft supplies for children. Look for paints and markers that will not stain clothing. Consider purchasing several large bins to store all your supplies in.

Many parents fear that crafts will be too messy. Crafts don't have to be messy at all. String crafts such as knitting or crocheting can be put away quickly and even taken along in the car or while stuck in a waiting room. Even if you are working with some of the messier supplies such as paint, a large tarp spread on the kitchen floor and an art smock will prevent any mishaps. Kids like to get dirty. Why not let them get messy while developing their artistic style?

One of the greatest benefits of kid's crafts is that they often turn into a lifetime love of crafting. Children who knit and crochet will usually become adults who enjoy it as well. Scrapbooking, macramé, sewing, painting, drawing and jewelry making are all crafts that children enjoy, but are equally as enjoyable for adults. Children often pick up on the skills needed to complete a craft easier than adults, which make learning at a young age ideal. Parents can also help foster positive self-esteem in children by displaying their artwork and craft projects throughout the home. Grandparents and other relatives often enjoy receiving a child's work as a gift. By encouraging your child's creative side, you will not only help to develop their imagination, but also improve the way they feel about themselves.

What is Origami?

The Japanese art of folding paper into shapes representing objects (e.g., flowers or birds)

Origami (折り紙?, from ori meaning "folding", and kami meaning "paper") is the traditional Japanese folk art of paper folding, which started in the 17th century AD and was popularized in the mid-1900s. It has since then evolved into a modern art form. The goal of this art is to transform a flat sheet of material into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques, and as such the use of cuts or glue are not considered to be origami.

What is craft?

... It's a passion.

A craft is a skill, especially involving practical arts. It may refer to a trade or particular art.
~ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craft

Craft can be a confusing word. When you use it there is a strong possibility that the other person is thinking about something quite different to you. One person imagines handmade one-off pieces while another thinks of stencilled furniture and stamps. And it doesn’t get any easier when you get beyond the word craft to a specific discipline such as glass or textiles, as again everyone will imagine something different.

Craft is what happens when a person with imagination and skill has the opportunity to be creative.
